Cleaning the "Office"

Before
It's not really an office, it's more of a pile of papers and electronics obscuring the view of an old student desk.  At any rate, it was impossible to work there, and visitors to our home were greeted immediately by this mess--first impressions matter.

After
  • The desktop computer didn't even need to be there.  In fact, it isn't even operational.  My wife and I both use laptops, so it is important to have some space to set up our computers and work.
  • The papers needed to be sorted into files (of course, I need to organize my filing cabinet before that can be completed)
  • I moved the shelves to another wall and put our electronics on it.  My books, which had been in a pile on the floor, found a new home on the shelves as well.
  • I moved a painting over the desk to add more color than the picture that was previously there.
  • The jumble of cords for the router, printer, and speakers went out-of-sight under the bottom shelf.  I also cut down on the number and length of the cords with a little rearranging.
